How to Manage Life Away from Home

Posted in

As a student who only lives 45 minutes away from home I can only speak for a handful of students when I say living away from home is not that bad at all! The peace of mind you gain and living with your friends might however seem amazing at first but once the cooking and home sickness kicks in you may regret your decision. So this short blog is to tell you HOW TO MANAGE LIFE AWAY FROM HOME!

  1. Learn how to cook – This was something I never had and this was obvious in my bowl of cereals I lived off from, whilst my flatmate was what seemed to be making 5 star meals from himself. Frying an egg, baking pasta and boiling rice are three things I definitely would recommend doing before starting Uni!
  2. Call your family regularly – This was my first experience away from home and best believe I got home sick. But we live in a world where technology is so amazing and I can dial and face my mum and dad whenever I want to. I can’t lie, I call my family on average 2 times a day which might seem unnecessary, but I feel it gives my mother a sense of ease. I would definitely make time in your day to catch up with your parents once a day.
  3. Become family with your flatmates – This is one I extremely recommend as someone who has bonded really well with their flatmates to an extent where my family knows them really well. This makes living away from home much easier. Little things like checking up on you, making you food and overall good vibes will make your student accommodation feel like a home
